Bacon wrapped anything is good right? This year as well as Pigs in Blankets, I’ll be serving Bacon Wrapped Halloumi. I saw an advert for festive food by Aldi and it included Bacon Wrapped Halloumi and I literally ran out of the door and grabbed a pack of bacon – I already had Halloumi in the fridge. Let me tell you, it’s as delicious as it sounds. That day we ate them as a snack, but these can be eaten at any time.
They can be prepped the day before ready to cook when needed.
Between the Halloumi and the Bacon there is a lot of salt in this side dish, I would avoid serving to under 1s.
Recipe makes 11 bacon wrapped halloumi sticks and 12 pigs in blankets
INGREDIENTS
24 rashers of smoked streaky bacon
1 pack of halloumi
12 chipolatas
METHOD
Preheat oven to 180c (fan)
In a frying pan, gently fry the bacon on a low heat for a few minutes until starting to cook (you don’t want it starting to brown), turning once
Place bacon aside, cool enough so you can handle it. If prepping for later allow to cool completely.
Cut halloumi into sticks. You need them to be thick enough to not break apart when being handled
Separate chipolatas
Wrap one piece of bacon around a halloumi stick and chipolata until all are covered.
Halloumi
Place on a baking tray and bake for 15-25mins until bacon is browned. Turn carefully half way through
Chipolatas
Place on a baking tray and bake for 25-35 mins or until chipolatas are cooked through. Turn carefully half way through.
Eat. Enjoy. Serve with my Cranberry Sauce.
